Botanical Art in Ink – Marigolds | ZOOM

This class is a great introduction to drawing and pen techniques using botany as our main subject. The specific theme for this class: Marigolds. The tools and techniques shared in this workshop are beneficial to creating beautiful florals from the marigold variety in ink. After we explore the breakdown of desert marigolds, Tagetes Lucida, and Tagetes erecta, we will learn how to use composition to create a final piece with all three.

Main Concepts:

  • Contour drawing 

  • Breaking down subjects into basic shapes

  • Variety of Pen Strokes

  • Line Control/Hand & Eye Coordination

Materials Needed:

  • 2H or 2B pencil, eraser (Streader), kneaded eraser & ruler

  • Pens (Copic Multi-liners or Micron) #.1, .3, & .5 

  • 9”x12” Paper (Illustration board, mixed media paper or sketchbook)

  • 8.5”x11” plain printer paper or sketchbook for warmups

  • Photos of marigold varieties
